The Indian Economic Journal welcomes research articles, of high quality, dealing with analytical, methodological and policy oriented issues of contemporary relevance.

All articles should be sent in electronic form- either through Email or Computer CD's/Floppies.

We expect the research articles to be in the range of 6000 words to 9000 words, which means about 20 to 30 pages in double spaced A4 size entry of the text.

Conforming to the prescribed guidelines would facilitate the processing of the articles in a speedy manner and would also help in maintaining the elegance of publication of the Journal.

Detailed guidelines for the formatting of the text, foot notes, statistical tables and References are given below:

  • Articles submitted for consideration for publication in the Journal, should be original and not published anywhere earlier.

  • Articles should not be more than 9,000 words. This word limit should be inclusive of all notes, references, tables, annexures and appendices.

  • Articles should be prepared in text format (e.g. MSword) following British spellings. PDF versions are not accepted by the Journal.

  • Contributions should be submitted in electronically readable format in a floppy/CD. In case it is not possible to provide floppy/CD, the author(s) should send soft copy of the article through e-mail (address mentioned below). Soft-copy versions of articles are essential for processing.

  • All contributions should be on an A4 format, with 1.5 line spacing. Matter should be left-aligned, with a one-and-a-half inch margin on the right and typed in 12-point sized font.

  • Graphs, tables and charts prepared in MS Office (Word/Excel Format) or equivalent format are preferred to material prepared in any other format or jpeg;

  • All articles should be accompanied by an abstract (100-150 words only).

  • It is advisable for the author(s) not to provide any handwritten amendments in order to prevent any confusion.

  • The article should also include: (i) the name(s) of the author(s), (ii) their professional affiliations, (iii) postal address and (iv) phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Articles sent should be complete in all respects, including references, foot-notes, etc. Sources for all tables, graphs, figures and maps should be provided (where applicable).

  • Footnotes should be given at the bottom of each relevant page and should be numbered serially, throughout the paper.

  • The Journal does not encourage major revision of articles until and unless there are major developments in the field of study after its submission. The Journal requests the authors not to send revised versions based on style changes and other minor changes. Such changes pose challenges in processing and imply unduly delays in processing.

  • Contributors to The Indian Economic Journal are requested to be careful as not to violate any of the provisions of the Copyright Act and the Rules made there under as regards the material used in the articles or their sources and/or of the computer software used by them. The Journal is not responsible for any violations or lapses, in this regard, on the part of the contributors.

  • The copy right of the articles, published in the Indian Economic Journal rests solely with the Indian Economic Journal; Any reproduction of the contents of the Journal will have to be done with the written permission of the Indian Economic Journal.

  • All articles submitted for consideration for publication in the Journal would be subjected to the Journal's refereeing system.

  • We maintain strict confidentiality in regard to referee's and author's names; For facilitating this, authors are required to send two copies of their papers: One with all full details, in regard to author's names etc. and Another copy in which all identification details of the author are removed. In this regard, Authors (and also Referees) are requested to delete all their identity from the main text and also to go to the properties section of their files and delete there from all the references to the author's (referee's) identity.

  • The Journal reserves its right to make stylistic changes or other editorial changes in the article(s) submitted and accepted for publication.

  • The Indian Economic Journal would publish brief write-ups on select new publications of professional interest and also select book reviews. The Journal requests the authors and the publishers to send two copies of their publications to the Journal for favour of Review/Book Scan.

  • The Journal welcomes comments and suggestions on the published articles, communications for Debate/Research and Book Reviews, published in the Journal.

  • Generally, numbers from one to ten should be spelt out. Numbers above ten should be given in figures. However, if several numbers occur in a sentence or paragraph, all of them should be in figure, for easy readability. In case of units or percentages, all numbers should be in figures. For instance, 3 km., 5 kg., 8 per cent, etc. In case of percentages, the word 'per cent' should be spelt out in the text, but the symbol % can be used in tables, graphs, figures and equations. In case of large numbers, preferably use only 'millions' and 'thousands', not 'lakhs' and 'crores'.

  • Abbreviations: All abbreviations such as 'pp.', 'vol.', 'no.', 'Dr.', ' Mr.', 'edn.', eds.',etc. must end with a full stop. There should also be full stops between initials of names, such as G.K. Chadha, D.N. Reddy, etc. However, in case of well known acronyms like USA, UK, UNO, etc. there should not be full stops between the initials. All acronyms should be spelt out at the place of their first occurrence with the acronym given in brackets. Subsequently only the acronym can be used. For instance, at the place of first usage, write Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY), but subsequently, write only JRY.

  • Dates: Specific dates should be written as, for instance, November 9, 2002. Decades should be referred to as the 1980s, 1990s, etc. The names of years should be in figures (1998, 2002, etc.), but the names of centuries should be spelt out (twentieth century, twenty-first century, etc.).

  • Figures and Tables: Please number each figure and table, and clearly indicate where they should be included in the text. All figures and tables should appear at the relevant places in the text and not at the end of article. All figures and tables should be referred to by their numbers in the text (for instance, 'Refer to Table 1', 'Please see Figure 3', etc.). The titles of the tables and figures should be brief and to the point. The Source and Notes, if any, should be given at the bottom of the table or figure. Within the table or figure, numbers should be given in digits, not words. Symbols like %, &, # should be used, where required, within the table or figure. The title of the Table should be given in all Capital Letters.

  • Place Names: The spelling of place names should correspond to the names given in standard atlases, and to common usage in case a particular place is a small hamlet or village and has not been included in any atlas. Please thoroughly cross-check the spellings of all place names cited in the articles, before submitting it for publication.

  • Referencing Style: All articles should carry a separate list of References at the end of the Article. The References should be cited in the text in a consistent style. For instance, (Chadha, 1986, pp.20-24). The details of this Reference should then be provided in the Reference list (in alphabetical order) starting with the author(s)' surname(s). The typical format for referencing is given below:

    Aoki,Masahiko (1988)
. Information, Incentives and Bargaining in the Japanese Economy, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
Kingston, W. (2004). "Removing Some Harm from the World Trade Organization", Oxford Development Studies, Vol. 32(2): 309-320.
